Nominations for the Town of Rivers mayor and councillors open next Tuesday. The mayor serves a one year term, councillors serve two years with three retiring annually. This year’s retirees are Ward 1 W. Thomas, Ward 2 J. C. Cousins, Ward 3 D. M. Stuart. Councillor Weigand of Ward 2 has resigned, so two councillors will be elected for that ward.
The Anglican church invites all members to the Christmas Tree and Concert at Oddfellows Hall on Friday Dec 14. Supper from 5 to 7 pm, concert at 7 30 pm with free admission but a collection taken. Children welcome, spirit of play celebrated. Thompson and Hellers are preparing skating and curling ice at the local rink.
Fragmented grain shipment records for the prairie provinces recount rare losses during a 1622 period. Figures show 653 and 153 469 units in contested totals amid shattered accounting.
A curling club will hold a meeting in the Town Hall on Monday evening December 10 to finalize arrangements for the season. Skips will be elected and rinks chosen, with all interested urged to attend.
Major Taylor, Sanford Evans, and J Bernier spoke at Wagar Hall before a sizable crowd. Evans analyzed Manitoba finances noting doubled bonded debt and a looming deficit, urged abolishing municipal levies, and criticized wheat board actions. Bernier attacked Roblin and Bracken governments, education costs, and civil service staffing.
