The Gazette extends best wishes for many happy returns to a list of birthday honorees including Mrs. A. Johnson on August 25 and several others such as Mrs. Chas Blandford and James Frame on August 26. Further celebrants include Orville Dyer Harrison Thomas Laurence Tyerman and Mrs. J. J. Charron with dates from August 27 to 30.
Work has begun on the extension of the highway from Rivers to Bradwardine. A large outfit is active on the section between Wheatland and Bradwardine. When finished, the route will connect Nos. 10 and 28, improving east west travel.
The Canadian Wheat Board issues an August 19 1939 notice enforcing a 5000 bushel limit on deliveries. Farmers must read regulations to avoid offences and penalties. Inspectors will check deliveries at elevators and farms. growers with questions should write to the Board with full case details.
The Assessment Roll for River s town is deposited and open to inspection for fifteen days. Complaints must be lodged ten days before the Court of Revision sitting on Monday October 1939 at 2 o'clock in the Council Chamber. Dated August 7, 1939. C H Gabe, Clerk. River a Manitoba.
TEN. EARS Aca A. K. MacKay arrived back from a holiday in Alberta and other points. Miss Annie McFadden received a gift from Excelsior Lodge L.C.B.A. Bathing at the river draws attention and a plan for dressing rooms is proposed. Mrs J E Mitchell Mildred and Edythe visited friends at Franklin. School trustees occupy R S McKenzie's Second Avenue premises pending a new building. Daly News reports Mr and Mrs Geo Seens and their daughter Mabel spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs A Brown.
The Line Elevator Company backs the farmer beyond grain handling through public relations efforts led by J W Brockington K C. They advocate Wheat Board support 80 cent price research into farm product uses in the U S western NRC division seed and crop funding weed control and price parity. The drive includes exchange governance input and government supervision while backing free international trade to expand wheat markets.
The Church of England lists services for Rev. G. M. Armstrong and notices Holy Communion at St. James Rivers at 9 30 a.m. and Evening Prayer at 7 30 p.m. Roseville Morning and Sunday School at 11. St Matthews Ancrum Evening Prayer 3 p.m. A Church Army Team will conduct services August 28 29 at St James Rivers with posters to follow.
Rev W R Donagh leads services at United Church with subject Not By Bread Alone. Services listed include Pettapiece 10 45 a m Rivers 3 00 p m and 7 30 p m with Rivers school reference.
Rivers Consolidated School will reopen on Wednesday August 30 after summer vacation. The staff includes Principal W S Stewart and assistants at both high and public schools. Opening night of the Four Star Theatre shifts to Thursday August 31 due to delays. Ducks and geese hunting season runs September 18 to November 15.
