Clear Lake grows richer with age as a premier year round destination. Riding Mountain National Park marks 75 years of beauty drawing thousands of cottagers and tourists each season. The lake offers sunset vistas from the Martese cruise and is home to wildlife including elk and moose observed by park officials.
A concise history traces Riding Mountain from a timber rich forest reserve in 1895 through national significance in 1930 and official park opening in 1933. It notes sawmills like Alex Kippan’s, their removal by 1935, final mill operation 1936 to 1946, dismantling in 1949, and the preserved remnant sites and trails that narrate the area’s logging heritage and park birth.
In 2008 Riding Mountain National Park celebrates 75 years since becoming a park with events planned throughout the year. The coordinator reflects on family ties to the area and urges both locals and visitors to join in celebrations at Wasagaming and Pinewood Museum.
Sandra Shwetz owner of The Boardwalk hosted a seven course ice cream tasting seminar for media last week. The event showcased varieties and styles offered by the shop as Riding Mountain National Park plans 25 events this year including the 75th anniversary and homecoming weekend attracting shops cottages motels and the campground to a buzzing season.
