Hugh McFadyen of Winnipeg won the Manitoba Progressive Conservative leadership on the first ballot with 66.6 percent of the 9,? votes. Ken Waddell and Ron Schuler trailed with 12 and 21.4 percent respectively as party membership more than doubled to over 13,000. Eric Stefanson led the transition team and McFadyen assumed leadership duties in May in the legislature.
