Rivers celebrates centennial with unveiling at train station
The Rivers Train Station centennial celebration featured Lt. Gov. Janice Filmon and local dignitaries at Redfern Hall. A 45 pound bronze plaque on the north wall marks the 1917 Grand Trunk Pacific Railway station built between July and September 1917. Civic leaders, MPs and MLAs praised the station’s role in Rivers history, with Via Rail and CN connections noted. Families and volunteers gathered for speeches, tours, and a luncheon at Behlen Lounge, celebrating a century of rail heritage and future sustainability plans.
