Open air dance hosted near Brandon sparks fatal mishap
On July 22, 1943 former Rivers resident Fred Stanley hosted an open air dance on his farm ten miles southwest of Brandon. An RCAF plane misidentified the dance floor as a bombing target and dropped a 10 pound practice bomb, killing Wesley Shields and injuring five others in Brandon hospital.
