Private cash bids reshape Western Canada cereal markets
Across Western Canada private firms now offer cash bids for wheat durum and barley for 2012/13 delivery. Forward contracting 20 40 percent of expected production limits downside risk. Malt barley prices 4 70 to 5 30 per bushel may prompt higher acre acres, while durum prices after Bill C 18 shift risk perception. Producers should check multiple delivery points and time sales to align with costs and yields.
