Longtime farmer Marvin Ries retires after 70 years on family land
Richard Marvin Ries, 87, grew up on the Elton area farm long run by four generations. He began farming as a teen after his father Walter died in 1940 and spent seven decades planting fields five miles north of Highway 1 on 270. Last year he harvested a field of No 1 red spring wheat yielding 62 bushels per acre, hauling the load to Viterra in Forrest, a trip marking his retirement. Since AgPro became Viterra, he delivered 941336 tons to the Forrest facility.
