USDA report sparks big gains in corn and soy markets
The March 30 2012 USDA release surprised traders by boosting corn and soy values. American corn acres were pegged near 96 million, while soybeans were projected at 73.9 million, lifting the new crop soy market 55 cents per bushel and widening the corn to soy ratio to 2.6 to 1. Higher wheat and barley acreage projections and ongoing flooding in the northern U S states influenced western Canada crop considerations, with minor crops showing protected acreage gains.
