Cleanup project on Little Calumet begins next week
Thornton township leaders win approval for flood relief on the Little Calumet river from the Illinois Indiana line to the Sag Canal. State Engineers will survey the river and tributaries as the Calumet Union Drainage District No 1 may supervise construction with local cooperation and no damages or easement compensation funded by the state. A meeting of interested parties will be held at the South Holland village hall.

Dalton native Capt. W B Gentry killed in New Guinea action
Capt. Wm B Gentry 27, pilot of a Liberator bomber in the Fifth Bomber Command, was killed in action Sept 30 in New Guinea. A Dalton, Indiana native, he had been overseas fourteen months and earned praise for skip-strafing. He married Catherine Jenkins July 28, 1942, in San Francisco and his wife resides in Dallas. His parents are Mr and Mrs Wim S Gentry of Dalton and a brother Charles is a Thornton Township High School freshman.
