Riverdale Village History and Park District Formation
Riverdale grew from a contested area in Cook County to an incorporated village by a close vote on December 28, 1892. Jed Schmidt became first president in 1893, with later annexations expanding the village to about 13,400 acres. In 1905 the Riverdale Park District was created, with about 1,200 residents in both village and city portions.
