Cahokia Mounds to Become Illinois State Park for Visitors
Contracts let to beautify Cahokia Mound Park covering 144 acres include seeding, roadwork, and a modern lakeside camping area while preserving Monks Mound in its natural state. The project highlights Cahokia as a premier prehistoric earthwork with 84 million cubic feet of earth and 16 acre base, linked to Monks Mound's 99 foot height and 2400 workers estimated to build it.
