A northeast Illinois freight train derailed a loaded flat near Dolton at 4 22 pm. The 34th and 35th cars uncoupled after a wheel jam on the 142nd street crossing, leaving the 36th car and caboose on track while crews untangled the mess and emergency spectators watched.

Garbage drums pulled after rat bites in Riverdale
Riverdale public works began removing all garbage drums on Saturday October 1 after a village ordinance banned drum use for garbage disposal. Superintendent Frank Mraz urged residents to own regulated cans with tight lids for sanitation. Ronald Reha was bitten on the leg by a rat from a drum on Monday September 26. Five rats jumped from a drum on Monday October 3 but caused no bites. Residents were urged to burn papers in regulated burners with supervision.

Car Crash In Riverdale Damages Parked Vehicle
A car driven by Thomas E Bohn 21 hit a parked car on 138th Street in Riverdale after noon Monday Sept 19. Bohn said the other car started shifting and he braked but his vehicle veered out of control striking the parked car. Edward Hard ase 69 of 5300 W Dakdale law assisted. Riverdale police took Bohn to the hospital for X rays and treatment of minor injuries. Both cars sustained damage.
