Deep sewer project explained for Burnham avenue in Calumet City
At an open Board of Works hearing in Calumet City the city engineer explained the Burnham avenue deep sewer plan. The 8 foot main from 159th to GrandCalumet river and a 3 foot lateral to 147th street would cost about 1.466 million dollars with property owners paying roughly seven dollars per front foot for new sewers or two dollars for older districts. The plan relieves floods and connects to a new disposal plant. Governor Small signed Burnham avenue as a state aid road, and Cook County will seek bids for a 50 foot wide bridge over the Little Calumet river at Burnham and 169th street, as engineers meet to plan the Grand Calumet bridge and nearby viaducts.
