Reassessment in Cook County Aims at Tax Equity
The Taxpayers' Union questions why Cook County must reassess to equalize taxes. Chairman Malone explains the old system fostered inequities and racketeering, with 100,000-plus complaints by 1927. The move will raise some outlying districts and lower others, but is intended to ensure taxpayers pay according to property value and urge local officials to adjust levies to avoid overtaxing.
