Property owners along Western avenue in Blue Island and the city council will hold a meeting on Nov. 44 to consider the proposal by the state and county highway departments to pave Western avenue. Milk price battle nears 9 cent quart in Chicago area
Informants say milk may drop to 9 cents a quart in Chicago and suburbs, a price not seen since 1917. Negotiations between dairy companies and the milk drivers union aim to cut wages by 10 a week to align with new costs, with drivers notified of a 35 weekly scale. Dairy officials seek price and cost cuts to meet vigorous competition from independent sellers and farmers who offer milk as low as 5 cents a quart.
