Moods as Excuses and Voyage Cash Advice
A fragment discussing moods as excuses within families and noting that even healthy individuals lack moral right to moodiness. It cites J G Holland and a London Punch remark advising carrying cash on long sea voyages to avoid being stranded without funds on a desolate island.

True Chivalry on a City Street
A man named Jones while returning from the theater with a female companion beckoned the elbow of the next person to alight and escort the pair across the street. He ends up guiding a tall gentleman instead, who thanks him warmly as the amused lady follows, giggling all the way home.

Andes Shape Rich South American Bird Life
The Andes create four life zones from tropical to alpine, driving isolation that boosts species variety. Africa lacks mountain chains, explaining fewer bird species. Since 1911 the American Museum of Natural History has surveyed the Andean region, gathering extensive collections from its northern reaches.

Dogs and Church Windows In Ecclesiastical Stained Glass
The Pedlar and his Dog window in the new county hall site was removed over concerns a dog belongs in a church window. Westminster Gazette notes similar controversies with a Carlisle chancellors denial over a dog in Westmorland church. Only examples cited are in Lord Brownlow’s Ashbridge chapel with Tobias and Sara and a dog, and Job mocked by three men with a dog on a chain.

Famous Bells of Boston and Their History
A bell cast by Paul Revere hangs in King's Chapel belfry and marks his 161st bell cast. The North Church bell signal preceded his midnight ride, while Christchurch in the North End rests as a landmark with a spire built in 1723 and shortened after a 1804 gale. The 1774 Ruddall bells carry inscriptions and beliefs of dispelling evil spirits.

An Officer and a Gentleman Foiled Naval Entrance Scheme
An applicant failed two mental tests for the Naval Academy and in June hired a second youth who had passed to take the exam. The substitute was discovered and both appointments canceled. The first candidate then induced a third youth who passed in April to take the test under the first name. Papers showed they were written by the same person and both youths confessed. Footwear lore from antiquity to modern times
The London Chronicle notes that Eve was barefoot, Nausicaa played unshod, and Helen wore sandals. It argues sandals bridge shoeless and booted styles, easy to make, with barefoot runs in Ireland and Scotland showing resilience and practicality in going without shoes and stockings.
