Unwritten Uncle Tom link tied to Nev Josiah Nenson
The article states Nev Josiah Nenson of Dresden Ontario is claimed as the prototype for Uncle Tom. Born July 15, 1789, died May 8, 1883, at ninety three, he escaped slavery in 1828 to Canada and became a Methodist minister and underground railroad leader. Stowe reportedly used his story after meeting him in Boston in 1850. Beecher Stowe’s grandson confirmed the tale in Montreal.
