Big Cut In Electric Rates Across Northern Illinois
The Illinois Commerce Commission reduced residential electric rates by 1,055,000 dollars for Public Service Company of Northern Illinois customers. Company officials say the order undervalues property, cites tax and expense pressures, and plans to pursue new business to restore earnings and possibly dividends. The new June 1, 1934 schedule offers 6.8 cents per kilowatt hour for the first 7 kWh per room, 5 cents for the next 5 kWh, 3 cents for the remaining usage up to 17 kWh, and 2 cents for usage beyond that, implying a one third more consumption at similar cost.
