The Board of Education of District 148 sets an April 8, 1959 special vote to add 14 classrooms to Roosevelt school in Dalton and to create a centralized junior high program at one site to relieve overcrowding and raise upper grade standards. Polls open noon to 7 p.m. on April 18, 1959.
Redeemer Lutheran Church of South Holland announces a ground breaking Sunday March 29 at 3 pm. The project on 166th Street near Cottage Grove Ave features a brick one story educational unit with a later worship annex. Pastor G D Schultz leads a historically midcentury congregation organized December 1 1957, currently meeting in Madison school auditorium.
Riverdale and Dolton prepare Youth Day events sponsored by the Lions Club with school pupils from St. Paul Lincoln Franklin Berger Waterman and St. Jude's to elect youth officials by April 6. Arrangements for officers and court dates must be set before April 14 and April 18. Reports on duties will be shared at village halls and the Lions Club dinner.
Dalton volunteer firefighters battled 21 prairie fires over a week amid strong winds. Nine calls came on March 21, with fires also on March 16 18 19 20 22. Riverdale volunteers fought six fires March 20 21 22, including a refrigerated railcar blaze at 144th and the C and E T tracks on March 20.
Henning E Johnson and Sons announce new street lighting for Dalton. Lights will run along Dorchester Avenue from 1st Street to 154th Street and Woodlawn Avenue from 11th Street to Greenwood Road. Construction starts immediately with completion by April 15.
The Board of Education explains plans for a Roosevelt school centered junior high at School District 148. Questions cover student transportation, lunch, and after school activities with officials stating buses will run at no cost to parents, lunches may be brought or bought, and after school activities rarely require staying late.
Police Chief Charles Cook extends thanks to donors for funeral expenses of Jacob Deckler who died March 17 in County Hospital. He notes Henry Miller and Brockfelt helped collect donations and credits Bachmann Funeral Home and Rev. Clifford Woll for services. Deckler, 83, lived at 13742 Indiana Avenue, longtime area resident and former Riverdale police chief. Funeral March 21 at Bachmann Funeral Home with Oakland Cemetery interment. no survivors.
Dalton police say a burglary occurred at a new home under construction at 14345 Cis in Santo Tors over the weekend. A cord and a valuable item valued at $80 were stolen.

A Riverdale village election is set for April 21 1959 in Cook County Illinois. Polls open at six in the morning and close at six in the evening. The notice is dated March 23 1959.
South Holland police recovered a 1955 Pontiac on 156th Street near Steenwind Road on March 21 after it was stolen from Rev. Jay E. Foster of Lansing the day before. Two juveniles, a 14 and a 15 year old, were turned over to Harvey juvenile authorities after police found them in a stolen car on Route 6 on March 13.
The Riverdale and Dolton directory for the South Suburban area will be delivered starting Thursday April 2. It covers local numbers with new Dial service codes Viking 1 and Viking 9 and includes dialing instructions and a nationwide Direct Distance Dialing list. Johnson urges customers to consult the new directory before calling and to use old directories until the April 5 changeover.
The Bell system runs a school for subscribers to prepare for the dial exchange set for April 5. Under Mrs Ruth Bulledge, operators call Riverdale and Dalton customers from 9 am to 9 pm weekdays, teaching dialing, busy signals, and the Viking exchange name, with practice calls to New York.
Funeral services for Fred S. Brund 62 of 14306 Irving Avenue Dalton will be at Community Mortuary 144th and Indiana on Saturday March 28 at 1 30 pm with Rev John L Timmerman officiating and burial at Chapel Hill Gardens South Sonic services Friday March 27 under the Masonic Lodge 785 AF and AM. Brund born March 5 1897 in Chicago died March 25 in Lakeside Hospital after 22 years in the area formerly of Rand Illinois. He operated the Fred Brand real estate and construction firm for 20 years and held leadership in Palace Lodge 165 AF and AM as well as Scottish Rite Medinah Shrine and Dalton Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his wife Mabel M daughter Mrs James Sanding of Ibung Iowa son Fuchard of Doolitie Michigan four grandchildren and others.
Dalston Riverdale Ministerial Association sponsors the annual Union Good Friday Service at Cross with special music from participating churches. Attendees may join any part, local businesses close to allow staff to attend, service recorded for later Quiet Time broadcast Friday evening at 7 09 p m. The United Presbyterian Church of South Holland will hold a Communion Service at 8 pm on Good Friday and publicly receive new members. The choir will sing portions of the On Haster Sunday. A sunrise service at 7:30 am is planned with breakfast at 8 pm for attendees. The 9:30 and 11 am services will be identical. Children’s classes run 9:30 am for ages babies through 8. Children ages 9 and up should attend a worship service.

The Ivanhoe Community Methodist Church announces an open Easter Communion at 8 p.m. Thursday inviting all Christians in the area without a church home to join in the anniversary of the Lord's Supper.

Riverdale Baptist Church outlines an Easter program for Sunday with a Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church 107th and Emerald Roseland and a combined morning service at Roosevelt School 145th and LaSalle. Four children may be baptized during the event. Community members will also host Thursday Visitation to recruit Sunday School pupils and reach absentees.
The Youth Fellowship and Methodist Men's Club of Ivanhoe Community Methodist Church sponsor an Easter Breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 am. Donations beyond expenses aid youth work. A special Easter service will be held at the Community Reformed Church of Dalton on Easter Sunday March 29. Junior and senior choirs will perform special music and Rev John Tien will deliver the Easter message. Sunday school 945 am morning worship 11 am and evening worship 7 pm. All area residents are invited.
Sandridge Methodist Church schedules a 6 30 am sunrise service with song breakfast prayer and a ten minute message by Rev Ray Kelley followed by a 9 15 am worship service featuring the Sunshine choir and a sermon on Jesus and the Resurrection by the pastor.
Redeemer Lutheran at 157th Street and Orchid Drive will conduct Holy Thursday service at 7 30 pm and Easter Sunday worship at 9 30 am followed by Sunday School.
