Clerk Refuses to Print Demo Ticket on Township Ballot
The Thornwn township election grows tense as Township Clerk William H Winterhoff refuses to print Democratic candidates on the April 1 ballot. A mandamus suit, filed by Arthur E Dillner and the Democratic township committee, seeks to force inclusion under the Democratic label. Winterhoff cites 1939 law changes and court decisions requiring primary petitions for established parties, warning that printing caucus nominees could void the election and prolong the board’s term.
