County Road Program Paves Five Miles and More in 1926
Cook County plans five million dollars in 1926 for major paving across Burnham avenue Calumet and Michgan City Road Lincoln Ave. The program includes 20 foot reinforced concrete roads with eight foot aprons on both sides totaling an 86 foot wide roadway. Some projects finish this year others later. Broward avenue links Torrence to Gostlin Hammond creating a Burnham outlet.

Murder Verdict Open In Railroad Victim Case
Inquest into Edward Riechey death at Bachman mortuary Dalton concluded with an open verdict. The 27 year old Chicago man was found deceased on Illinois Central tracks at 142nd Street after disappearing February 18. He had been murdered, body cut in two, coroner's jury found. money and pocketbook missing. Burial arranged for February 20.

Auto Crash Claims Riverdale Man On Halsted Street
Chief Frank Stieman received a late call about a man struck at 135th and Halsted. William Whitman, a Harbor yards laborer and United Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees member, died at the scene. The union bore burial costs, and he was laid to rest at Oaklawn cemetery in Thornton.
