Instruct Patrol Boys Meeting at Riverdale Hall

Riverdale chief of police Frank Mraz called a patrol boys meeting for February 28 at the village hall. Thirty boys from Bowen Washington and St. Paul schools attended with their principals. Officers explained patrol duties and safety.

Dalton Banker Weds Chicago Bride In Florida Honeymoon

William Staat assistant cashier at First National Bank Dalton married Miss Mary Louise Enright in Chicago on February 21. Bride is daughter of William Enright of Chicago and sister of Mrs Benjamin Croke. Ceremony followed by reception, then a seventeen day Florida honeymoon. They will reside in Englewood after return.

John Schlaacks Dies After Acute Appendicitis

John Schlaacks veteran Illinois Central locomotive engineer died February 27 at Jackson Park hospital from acute appendicitis. A Riverdale resident with 52 years service, he began work at 14. Funeral 9:30 AM Saturday at Thompson's Chapel and 10 AM at St. Patrick's Church. Survived by widow and two daughters Alice Kennedy and Viola, interment Oakland Cemetery Dolton.

Miller Solomon Couple Wed at St Pauls Church

Miss Catherine Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs John Miller of Riverdale married Charles Solomon of Riverdale on a Saturday afternoon at St Pauls church parsonage with Rev W J Kemmitz officiating. Mrs Mary Bachman sister of the bride was matron of honor and George Miller brother of the bride was best man. Victor Steinhauer attended a large reception after the ceremony and a dinner was served at six. The couple will reside at 234 East 186th Street Riverdale.

Basketball Tourney Opens March 10 at St Pauls Gym

The Illinois Basketball Association tournament shifts to St Pauls school gym from March 10 to 14. Three games are set for Sunday at 2 PM and evening sessions begin at 7 PM. Local teams join strong entries from the Westside and a Loop restaurants representative.

New Superintendent Chosen for District 148

Mr Lyle K Klitzke to succeed Orville Bright as superintendent of schools in District 148. Former Lincoln school principal at Maywood Illinois he holds BA from Iowa and MA from Chicago and will continue graduate study at University of Chicago this year. He and his family will reside in the district and engage in civic affairs. His official work starts March 1.

Louis Schoof florist of Homewood visits The Pointer office as a welcome caller last Friday. He was Homewood correspondent for The Pointer for about a dozen years and helped build its local news audience. He pledges to write a biographical sketch of Homewood, a reading prospect for thousands of families. Village officials discussed Illinois Municipal League bills at Springfield. St Marys School Hall To Host Pre Lent Festival

A Pre Lenten festival will be held at St Marys school hall Sunday and Tuesday evenings March 38 and 5. Everyone invited and warmly welcomed. A patriotic meeting report from last Tuesday under Paul Gall Post American Legion at Dalton village hall is deferred to next week. Mayors Frank Kasten and other speakers attended. New sewer empties wells in Dalton village meeting

A brief Dalton Village Board session on February 26 discussed paying semi monthly village salaries and bills, receiving reports from committees, and attending a Legion mass meeting. A plan to create a public weigh master to certify goods for Chicago and nearby towns was authorized, with an ordinance to be drafted. Lighting complaints and water issues near New Chicago were referred to attorney Propper for investigation. Condolences were offered to the Willigan family and a first aid kit request was approved.

Illini lawyer returns to office after illness

Attorney P. P. Flick resumed work for a short hour on Wednesday, his first since January 12 when he fell seriously ill with pneumonia. He is regaining strength and will soon resume practice. Flick is a charter member and sergeant-at-arms of the Illinois Municipal League, which counts 585 mayors village presidents and officers. Last week he received a healing message from the executive committee in Snivefield wishing him a speedy recovery.
