Ensign David L. Van Duyn was commissioned April 14 at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Florida. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Cornelius L Van Duyn of South Holland Illinois and is married to Jennie A De Vries of Artesia California. The Calvin College graduate completed sixteen weeks of training and now pursues primary flight indoctrination at Saujey Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station Pensacola.

The Paul Gall unit 303 American Legion auxiliary meets Thursday May 28 at 8 p.m. with Norma Wilmot presiding and Magdeline Kunz in charge of the serving. Gold star members Edith Rudolph Pearl Van Dyke Hilda West Joan Judge Magdeline Kunz June Christensen Evelyn Enders were honored at the May 15 gathering. Emily Messer Schmidt led the program. Eloise Lundquist has applied for membership. A June 7 bus trip to Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home in Normal Ill to attend the annual pilgrimage will depart at 9 am and return at 5 pm with Blue Devils Cadet drill team performing. Donation is 1 to cover bus costs. Reservations with Norma Wilmot or Harold Brown. Sympathy is extended to Ora Schoenberg on the death of her son Robert Patty and to Della Trimble on the death of her husband Russell a former post commander. Sick list includes Jesse Moomaw Dorothy Wardzala and Carl Maurer who is wished a speedy recovery.
