West Point Graduation For Cadet Shroyer
Cadet Shroyer of 412 West 144th Riverdale will graduate from the U S Military Academy at West Point on June 7. Memorial Day Observed Across Riverdale and Dalton
Memorial Day was observed May 30 1911 by Riverdale Dalton and surrounding areas with a long procession to Oakland Cemetery. The Harvey band G W Spencer Post the Relief Corps and the Ladies of the G A R led the event with school children and numerous wagons and carriages in attendance. Local notices mention residents Richard Hess the Riverdale barber Frank Bergold a painter and the Dolton Sheet and Wey Committee youths removing surplus street sand while sewer work is completed. Notices include tax payment hours and bids for coal for Bowen School with delivery deadlines and a sealed bid opening set for June 23 1911.

Thornton Township high school will award diplomas to about six graduates at the Class of 1961 commencement in the Thornton gymnasium at 8 p m. Principal Renfrow will present the class to District 203 Superintendent Dr. Logstion. Valedictory speakers are John Fyler and Janet Propper, both high in scholarship. Fyler holds a Daniel Webster Scholarship to Dartmouth.

Mendel Catholic High School will graduate 366 seniors in a Sunday ceremony. The bac calaureate Mass is at 10 am with Very Rev Martin J O Neill officiating. Diplomas will be presented by Rev John L Leary OSA Provincial of the Augustinians in the Midwest.

Mock Convention Highlights May League Meeting
The May gathering of the League of Women Voters of Riverdale-Cotton used a mock convention to present reports. Delegates discussed actual convention topics, with Mrs. Jack Stahlheber presiding and Mrs. Robert C. Pebworth’s radio interview as a showpiece. The program featured the Very Rev. John R. Aherne as commencement speaker and Mendel band music. A dog bite incident involved Tommy Tully, 7, of Riverdale, bitten on the right ankle by a dog. the animal was impounded.

Fire destroys bedroom and furnishings in Dalton home
A fire on Sunday evening May 21 gutted a bedroom and its furniture in the home of Mary Low Cushing at 14723 Dorchester, Dalton. Firefighters battled the blaze but the room suffered total destruction. No injuries reported.

Accident on Dobson Ave Involves Car and Truck
William D Denard 33 of 14437 Dobson Ave Dolton drove into the rear of a truck driven by Robert S Dobbs 38 of Carpenteria Illinois on Tuesday morning May 16 near the Ulinors Central Railroad viaduct. Police said Denardi braked but could not avoid the collision.
