Chilton Satterthwaite, director of District 205 summer school, announced a record 1635 students enrolled this semester. Enrollment spans 275 in diner education, 225 in 23 junior college classes, and 1135 in 28 high school classes, with notable gains across subjects.
Ralph Oster of Riverdale earned a National YMCA Fish award for completing 10 intermediate skills and swimming 1,000 yards with two strokes and dives. Bruce DeYoung, also of Riverdale, earned a Flying Fish award for 10 advanced strokes, 220 yards, and two dives. The Harvey YMCA runs swimming instruction for boys in grades 3 and up with an indoor pool and qualified staff.
Jerome F Fioto struck a parked car owned by Leslie Lang at 636 E 149th St Dolton on July 9. Fioto said his vehicle could not avoid the hit and the Lang car suffered a damaged rear while Fioto’s car had front left damage.

La Rabida awards nearly 100 camp scholarships to former heart patients from Dolton. Selected campers depart July 23 after a July 19 exam by La Rabida doctors Rhaths and Robert Costello at 154th Street. Camp Wonderland in Lake Wisconsin offers rehabilitation and inclusion for siblings, with Katharine Maher noted as CSW director.
A 50 cent fee per family unit per night will be charged for camping at 22 Illinois state parks and memorials starting this week. Organized youth groups will pay one dollar a week for camping at the same sites. Parks affected include Apple River Canyon, Beavor Dam, Chain O Lakes, Giant City, Minsk? Beach, Johnson? Trail, Kankakee River, Lake Argyne, Lake Le Aqua, Lake Murphysboro, Lake Ramse x, Lincoln Trail, Lowden Memorial, Mississippi Palisades, New Salem, Siloam Springs, Starved Rock, Weldon Springs, White Pines Forest, and Spring Lake.

A two car crash at 152nd Street and Giant Street in Dolton occurred on July 6. Charlotte VE Knuth of 14631 Wabash reported she did not see the southbound car on Grant Street as her westbound vehicle approached the intersection, striking the left side of the southbound car driven by Walter Diepl of 15131 Evers.
