State Income Tax Starts For Illinois Workers August 1
The Taxpayers Federation of Illinois says taxpayers will feel the new State Income Tax when they receive pay checks after July 31. Beginning August 1, 1969, employers must withhold 2 percent of compensation for state tax, after exemptions. Exemptions equal $1,000 times the Federal Act withholding allowances. Employers must file payroll records and remit taxes to the Illinois Department of Revenue by quarterly deadlines, with annual option if total withheld is under $100.
