The Ivanhoe Reformed Church at 143rd and Wabash will hold a daily vacation Bible School from July 9 to 20 led by Rev. Robert Schuler. Grades kindergarten through eighth will meet each morning 9 30 to noon with Bible study music handwork and play supervised by capable leaders and open to all children.
The Evangelical and Methodist churches of Dolton join for an annual picnic at Dolton Park on Sunday July 22. Rev Walter H Meyer will deliver a farewell sermon at 10 am in a special early service followed by a family basket lunch and community games and recreation coordinated by Harry Jones and Mrs Gilbert Pickrell. An annual united worship closes the day in the park.
Dalton cub scouts closed their season with a high council fire and Indian ceremony in Bachmann's Woods. Attendees watched Webelos Lion Bear Wolf and Bobcat awards presented as boys wore feathered headbands and painted faces. A new den 76 was formed and Webelos knots were demonstrated before Webelos candidates joined Boy Scouts.
Boy Scout Troop 220 from Ivanhoe performed with the Koshare dancers in East Chicago on June 27. The Koshare group, led by Buck Burshears, is a troop from La Junta Colorado. dances include Chippen Feather Ghost Hoop and Eagle dances. The group has appeared nationwide, with a history of 300 public appearances and a scrapbook of clippings.
Whiting Corporation together with the Swenson Evaporator Division will close its plant and offices for the annual vacation from July 28 to August 12. A skeleton crew will handle emergencies and incoming materials. The new Harned Vacation Policy grants paid vacation days based on service, with 175 employees eligible for three weeks of pay this year.

Leslie Harbin aged 27 of 72 E 137th Street Riverdale is jailed on a $5000 bond for alleged participation in a tavern brawl Friday night in Dalton. Sherman Slusser 39 of Dolton was badly cut and stabbed, hospitalized at St Francis Blue Island in serious condition but later reported improved. Justice of the Peace Thomas Harper Dolton set August 1 for a 10:00 a.m. hearing.
Norman Larson of South Dakota and T Smith of Wisconsin were found guilty on July 2 of stealing a truck from the Calumet River bridge contractors on May 7. Judge Lupe deferred sentence on a probation plea. hearing set for July 24. Dolton police arrested the men at Lincoln and Park avenues. the truck carried plywood and reinforcing bars.
Maj Benjamin Pierce of Ivanhoe returned Wednesday June 27 from Korea where he served with the Combat Engineers of the 24th Division. He has 20 years of reserve and active duty and has earned the Silver Star Bronze Star Air Medal Award and a Citation. His division was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation.
