Supreme Court Upholds Income Tax Law in Brushaber Case

Chief Justice White rejected a broad challenge to federal taxing power and explained the law’s reach as a long standing power, not a new grant. The ruling rejects retroactivity and counters arguments about exemptions for certain groups, placing political context and historical debate within the court’s decision. The case follows decades of litigation over federal income taxation.
