New Questions On School Tax Boost

A 1928 reassessment delay and uncertain tax collections strained the district finances. Tax bills were payable over a year late, forcing borrowing in anticipation of taxes and leaving warrants long past due. From 1930 to 1934 nearly $50,000 accumulated, with improved conditions only in the past two years as warrants issuance declined. Interest on these warrants averaged about $7,000 annually, draining funds that could have funded schooling.
