Delton men drafted for induction march third

Nineteen selectees including Ralph E. Vandenberg Louis Shilling and Kenneth Maxwell will depart Tuesday March 3 for army induction at a station. The list names Delton and Phoenix Ill and South Holland Ill residents with street addresses and several Chicago area addresses.

Lieutenant Gentry On Short Furlough From Army Air Corps

Lieutenant William B. Gentry, now a pilot in the Army Air Corps attached to a bombardment squadron, spent a week with his Dalton family after earning his wings at Stockton California. He recalls Pacific Northwest service and asks local friends to wish him safe flying in the perilous days ahead.

Thornton High School Band Plans March 6 Concert

Thornton High School presents its thirteenth annual band concert directed by L A Hopkins on Friday March 6 at 8 p m in the auditorium. The program includes military tributes for army navy marines and air corps with free admission for service members. Walton League Exhibit Shines At Sportsmen Show Chicago

Local attendees at the Sportsmen's Show at the International Amphitheatre will find the Izaak Walton League exhibit organized by national headquarters with help from four chapters Calumet Region Woodlawn Beverly Ridge and Southeast. Pheasants on display were raised by Arthur Heinberg of Dolton, a Calumet Region member. The show runs through Sunday at 6 45 pm. The Calumet Region plans a smelt dinner on Wednesday April 15 to fund their new lodge north of Lake Michigan on Dalton. A drawing offers an Evinrude outboard motor a radio or $75 cash. Tickets are available from Calumet Region members.

Young Theatre Slayer Former Resident Here

Clarence McDonald, 17, of 2832 Ridgeland Avenue Berwyn, shot his sweetheart Dorothy Broz, 17, of 2124 Scotville Avenue Berwyn, dead on the Palace theatre balcony Tuesday afternoon. McDonald is described as a former resident of Dalton and Riverdale known as Blondy. The family moved to Berwyn from Riverdale. Miss Elsie Johnson of Grant Park Illinois is a guest at Mr and Mrs George Smith’s home.
