Boxing Show Draws Crowd at St Marys School Hall

A Holy Name Society sponsored boxing event at St Marys school hall drew a large crowd with over 275 parked cars. Fifteen bouts were held including an exhibition between Pete Wistort and Otto Fischl, with several matches ending in draws and multiple winners.

Harvey Wreck Victim Wins Hearst Scholarship

The Harvey wreck victim Wendel Tarkoff, killed December 26 along the Grand Trunk tracks, is named as second place recipient in a Hearst newspapers memorial contest for the Munt Rushmore tribute in the Black Hills. The four year scholarship totals $300 yearly and will be given to Tarkoff’s parents with a special medal. The scholarship goes to the next place winner.

Twin Daughters Born to Dalton Couple at South Chicago Hospital

Mr and Mrs John A Beck of 606 Grant Street Dalton are the proud parents of twin girls born Sunday morning February 3 at South Chicago Community Hospital. Names chosen are Jean and Joan. The State School Board Association proposes a legislature plan to remedy the current unsatisfactory school district funding.
