Lid on Sunday trade shocks Riverdale town
The Sunday closing law went into effect last Sunday in Chicago Heights and drew strong opposition from local business leaders who fear the blue laws will hurt the town. They cite lost sales from no papers, cigars, games, or fruit, plus factory layoffs, as evidence of worsening conditions. A Riverdale Hunting & Fishing Club meeting drew 14 boat owners, electing Daniel Perry as temporary chair and Edward Stanke as secretary with plans for the January 5 1908 meeting to elect permanent officers. William Tastings, previously in charge of the Pullman farm north of Riverdale, was injured when a splinter pierced his right index finger while cutting wood near Calumet Lake.
