The 8. W. Schwab store at 72-74 E 137th Street is described as Riverdale’s Marshall Field’s, a large suburban outlet offering dry goods ready-to-wear clothing furnishings and footwear. Since 1908 Schwab has built a clean up-to-date inventory with low market prices, favors home trading, and specializes in union made goods.
The history of Geo H Schaefer at Chicago and Main streets in Dalton shows a modest start fourteen years ago. The original location was near the current site, with stocks then infinitesimal compared to today’s expanded general store and enterprise.

Dr A J Ferner at 18724 Leyden Ave expands practice with permanent Riverdale headquarters over Fordtran Bros. Studio. He has 12 years at Roseland and plans full-week joint offices with Dr Walter A Maguy, offering advanced dental care and patient guidance.
Riverdale’s Gus Nordhoff, known as the village blacksmith, runs a shop at 15549 Indiana Avenue with diverse trades beyond hammering iron. He covers general blacksmithing, horseshoeing, and additional skilled services for the community.

The plant uses modern machinery and employs 40 to 50 workers year round serving truck farmers and market gardeners nationwide.
The Dolton area’s leading plumbing enterprise is run by Mr Garl Wulff with offices at 602 Irwin Avenue. The Wulff firm boasts complete stocks and handles large contracts and repairs with ease. His son Frank assists in detail work, boosting the business’s growth and local reputation.
