Christmas Cheer Gets Under Way in Dalton

The Dalton Business Association starts the Christmas Cheer program with a decorated tree at Chicago Street and Lincoln Avenue. Stores urge shoppers to collect coupons for a chance to win a bicycle, dolls, and a deep fryer. Coupons drop at First National Bank Dalton. prize drawings will be announced next week.

Several Auto Accidents Reported in Riverdale Area

Police logged multiple crashes in Riverdale and nearby areas. Ed ward Kile, 29, struck by a B&O locomotive at 137th Place crossing with no injuries. Floyd Byers and Harold Marabanian involved in a winter ice crash on Halsted and 162nd Street. Nancy McIntosh and John Bell collided on 113th Street. Three minor fog related crashes occurred on Ashland Avenue.

Red Cross Holds First Aid Classes

The Standard First Aid Course of the Red Cross held its first class on December 4. A second session is set for Thursday December 11 from 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dalton Village hall. Walter Patterson of Steger, Illinois, is the instructor. Those wishing to enroll may join and make up the first lesson.

Two Robbers Hold Up Riverdale Delivery Driver

Joe Harkens of 7058 Emerald Avenue was forced from his truck on December 4 around 6:00 p.m. by two men who stole $45 after overpowering him at a delivery stop near 1 W. 140th Court. The thieves also attempted to crack a safe containing about $500 before fleeing.

Riverdale Chief Warns Against Air Rifles for Christmas

Chief Charles Cook declared air rifles taboo in Riverdale and warned that any rifle found with a resident will be confiscated. He cited recent cases of rifles shooting out street lights and semaphore signals on railroads, stressing danger to pedestrians and lasting injury risk.

Service Pfc William Walter in airborne infantry course at Fort Benning

Pfc William C. Walter, son of Mr and Mrs William Walter of 13913 Lincoln Avenue, is a student in the airborne infantry course at Fort Benning Georgia. The program trains volunteers from all arms to become qualified parachutists and requires five airplane jumps including one with full equipment. The infantry school offers 21 courses for Regular Army, Reserve, and National Guard personnel, spanning recruit training to general staff officers.

Two Dalton Soldiers Depart for Korea from Camp Stone

Pvt. Chris Rigoni and Pvt. Tommy Piette left Sunday after a 17 day furlough for Camp Stone near San Francisco where they expect to be sent to Korea. Both are sons of local families and former civilian friends now serving in the army.

Ivanhoe Decorates for Christmas Lighting Contest

Ivanhoe Business Men's Association sponsors a home decorating contest with prizes of 40 dollars for first place 25 dollars for second and 10 dollars for third. Camp Rally at Community Grace Friday
