Dalton Village Board in regular session December 4 1916 approves filling street holes with stone and tarvia grants permit for Christmas tree in the street. Trusts approve bills Sanitary District funds and transfer details. Water lines and fire protection discussed and a gas plate for hall considered.
The fiying village company will replank Lincoln Avenue crossing soon. The Dalton Woman's Club seeks permission to place a Christmas tree at the public fountain with village lights provided. Trustees Dillner Weber and Albrecht will confer with the club. Unfinished business notes a dispute over a 1916 premium payment with American Surety Co. The president offers personal bonds to cover the village expense. Dillner seeks permit for drain work for the board of education and Weber reports chickens harassing hydrants, prompting police oversight.
A compilation of social happenings includes Schafskoff games at Roseland and Riverdale, dances at Riverside Inn on December 28 and January 1, and a January 6 reception by Chicago Brick Co. workers. Other items include a Grand Prize Masquerade Ball on December 30, stock expo in Chicago December 2 to 9, and church and club activities through December 18.
About 300 applicants sat the city civil service exam for bridge tenders last April. Gustav Horn and John DeVries ranked high, with Horn placed at the 92nd Street bridge in South Chicago and DeVries assigned to Torrence Avenue. The 92nd Street bridge is a half million dollar project, and tenders receive 1200 dollars yearly with eight hour shifts and potential raises. The community congratulates the two young men and notes the local building and loan association assets and a drug store sale in Riverdale.
Reports of memorial grief and family losses. a grave dove kept as a keepsake requested. Obituaries note the deaths of Dr. Edward G. Vance in Riverdale and Dr. John F. Kettles’s arrest incident. Local crime includes vandalism on a barber shop sign and a severe illness in Oak Forest Sanitarium. Community events, birthdays, weddings, and a 10th anniversary celebration fill the Dalton area social calendar.
An important meeting of beet growers in the section is scheduled for Tuesday after noon December 12 at Lund's Hall in Dalton. All farmers growing sugar beets are urged to attend.
Community fundraiser dinner offered at the M E church Saturday night December 9 from 6 to 8 to support Sunday school children's activities. Tickets priced at 25 cents attract families to share a meal and help a local program.
The DOL Ton Riverdale Building and Loan Association invites families to own homes with easy monthly payments. The secretary is available to discuss loans, and a Sith series is to be issued January 1. Dotron Riverpsre Burtping & Loan Association.
The Delton Woman's Club plans a municipal Christmas tree at the fountain square during Christmas week with local churches invited to provide music. The Delton Concert Band will perform on Christmas Eve and the village board may permit street use and electric lighting. Mrs. Jamieson chairs the committee.

The Pointer announces a Christmas edition next week inviting local business men to buy space. A three color art cover will showcase Xmas goods and reach almost every home, as representatives will call in a few days to collect advertising material.
All who plan to send Christmas parcels are urged to mail early to ease handling. The Post Office Department will hold packages upon request and shoppers are advised to complete purchases early.
A ladies and childrens apparel sale is set for 136 Park Avenue Dalton on Saturday December 16 and Monday December 18. The event features street costumes shirt waists house dresses party dresses bungalo and kitchen aprons middy dresses and 200 garments for little tots. Garments are handmade from specially selected materials and inspection is invited.
Halsted Street is now open with a new concrete road easing north south traffic. Officials say bridges at North Harvey and Riverdale soon require replacement and the plan will be discussed in a few days by city and county commissioners and local officials.
The Dalton Concert Band will perform Wednesday evening December 13 at the Lincoln Avenue School Auditorium. The program features Tremendosa and 23 Lose Selection, A Garden Dance, Vargas Water Lilies, St. Clair Basket of Roses, Albert Bow of Pansies, Zamienik Intermission, Shades of Night, Gilbert Hearts and Flowers, Obani I'm Longing for You, Hataway One Fleeting Hour and F é Ine America. Concert starts at 8 PM.
Bowen School officials announce a larger Christmas program for this year to include most families from Riverdale and Highlawn. A hearty invitation is extended to Santa Claus with hopes he attends the event, drawing enthusiastic parents and friends to fill the hall.
Mr. B N Raver of Dalton and Miss M Baker of Thornton married on November 21. The Pointer congratulates the couple. A lost ladies envelope pocketbook between Engie Street and the street car line in Dalton was reported this morning. A liberal reward will be given to Mrs Taylor at 524 Eagle Street, Dalton.
