Typhoid Carrier Court Upheld Quarantine Power
Judge Joseph Sabath of the Superior Court ruled health Commissioner Robertson may order quarantine for any person deemed a typhoid carrier by medical experts. The case of Mrs. George A Barmore, held at county hospital since December, tested the limits of medical liberty versus public health authority. Barmore had argued against quarantine after being found a carrier by Dr Herman Bundesen and bacteriologists, while Darrow represented her. The decision supports quarantine to protect community health despite individuals not showing disease symptoms.
