Illinois Population Shifts From 1900 to 1910 Census

Illinois population in 1910 reached 5,638 591 with a state gain of 817 041 in ten years. Cook County rose from 1 838 730 in 1900 to 2 405 238 in 1910, a 566 498 increase and 30.8 percent. State growth outside Cook County added 200 543, about 8.4 percent.

Foreman Henry Strosinski Injured At Beet Sugar Works

Henry Strosinski, foreman at the beet sugar works filter press, was maimed in a serious accident last Tuesday while inspecting a lime stroke. His clothes caught in a shaft, tearing them and sending him to the cement floor. Chas Nelson shut down the machinery and Dr Schwidt tended to him. He had severe head and neck wounds, needed scalp stitches, and was taken home to Highlawn. He is the son of Anton Ntrosinski and is married.

Camp Fire at Village Hall Promotes Patriotism and Talks by Old Soldiers

The Cook County Staff Association met Spencer Poet at Riverdale Village Hall for a camp fire style gathering Sunday afternoon. Visitors enjoyed singing patriotic songs and speeches by old soldiers. Women’s Relief Corps and NePearson Circle served lunch, with praise for future meetings. Water diversion questions raised about Calumet river toward the drainage canal and hopes for progress under new board president Smyth.

Raiding the Kentucky high stepper at Illinois Brick yard event

Excitement rose last Saturday as Raiding the Kentucky high stepper owned by B R Edmunds broke loose at the Illinois Brick Company Yard Barn. About 25 boys pursued the horse nearly to Hammond Indiana before Edmunds halted the chase and secured the animal, leading the group home.

Reich, Sr. Stricken by Partial Stroke After Retirement

Alban Reich Sr., the eldest member of the Reich family and a longtime resident for 62 years, suffered a partial stroke Sunday night. He awoke paralyzed on his right side due to a blood clot in the brain, but showed some improvement and can move his arm. Neighbors and friends hope for a full recovery in the coming years.

Boosters Press Panama Exposition Demand in Washington

A San Francisco boosters delegation travels via Chicago to Washington to advocate for the Panama Exposition at the Panama Canal opening. DeYoung says the city has raised 17.5 million dollars and can raise 30 million more if needed, and will not accept gifts or loans, arguing Congress cannot ignore their resolve.
