Underground highway for Riverdale telephone service
Illinois Bell installs an underground conduit system along State Street in Riverdale from 137th to 144th Streets. Workers bury eight 1500 pound steel pipes beneath railroad tracks using a hydraulic piston, creating space for nine cables. Completion aims mid September with cable pulling in October and service by November.
