Servicemen From E T O Arrive Home on Furlough

A group of veterans returned to their communities this week on furlough after arrival from the European Theater of Operations. Notables include Pfc. Alfred E. Grossenbacher of the 28th Infantry Division and Pfc. John J. Scaglione of the 220th Armored Engineer Battalion, with other service members from Riverdale and Dalton. The 28th Division fought from Normandy to the Rhine, while the 20th Armored Division moved from Normandy to Munich and Salzburg. Also home are Pvt. Alvin Krugler and Sgt. John J. Berger among others, with details of their units and furlough lengths.

Goebel Baby Girl Born at Ingalls Memorial

Mr and Mrs Chested Goebel of Riverdale announce the birth of their daughter Joyce Mary born Tuesday August 7 at Ingalls Memorial hospital Harvey. The baby weighed 5 pounds 4 ounces and is their first child. Mrs Goebel is the former Viola Reich.

Girl Scout Council Charter Accepted in Dalton Area

The Dalton Riverdale and Ivanhoe communities gain a local headquarters after national approval of the Dalton Riverdale Girl Scout Council charter. Nine troops exist. expansion will need more leaders and meeting places as funds are sought through a house to house canvass led by Albert Heine and the finance committee.

Two Local Youths Held by Japs Mention Potsdam Peace

Families of Edward Maas and Raymond Krass hope for reunions under the Potsdam transfer of prisoners. Maas, a Guam Marine, last heard from January. Krass, missing in action after USS Houston sinking, was later confirmed a POW with latest letter in 1944. Pfe. Burns on Face Suffered by Soldier on Okinawa

Mr and Mrs Henry Schmidt of Riverdale received a War Department telegram on August 8 stating their son Henry Stark CM1/e suffered facial burns while serving on Okinawa on July 29. Earlier letters from him said he was on a hospital ship home and not seriously hurt. The last note dated July 31 was his birthday letter.
