Cook County Faces Road Money Stated as Insult by President

Anton J. Cermak, president of the Cook County board, denounces state finances claiming Cook motorists paid 23.6 million in auto licenses since 1920 while receiving only 142.63 miles of roads costing about 3.28 million. He argues downstate gets far more road mileage under a new 100 million bond plan, prompting county taxes to fund local thoroughfares. Emmerson tables show county and state vehicle tax totals.

Calumet City to Open New Hospital at State Line Street

A former two story residence at 686 State Line street on the Illinois side will be opened as the Calumet City hospital within days. The new facility will house twenty patients and include two operating rooms an X ray room a laboratory and a kitchen.

Street Car Collision Near 130th Street Leaves Five Hurt

A southbound street car struck a Nash sedan at the S C subway at 130th Street last Tuesday at 4 45 PM. Driver Harry Turnquist and his wife and four children escaped serious injury though cut and bruised. They were treated at Dr Walker's office and the wrecked car towed to a garage as fire and police responded.

The Dolton Board met in regular session with full attendance. Officers reported progress on the 138th and Indiana water main tie in and a new reservoir main to be in operation soon. An ordinance requiring dog licenses was approved and will be published. Sewer work for Shepard subdivision was approved and contracts will be let shortly. Legion Carnival Opens Monday In Dalton

Paul Gall Post No 803 of the American Legion launches a seven night carnival starting next Monday on the vacant lot beside the Dugout in Dalton. No high dives this year but free prizes, with 1500 tickets issued for chances at swings, merry go round, games, a band, and other attractions. Admission is free and all legionnaires are urged to attend.

Gas Plant Shutdown Planned for Blue Island Sept 1

Public Service Company of Northern Illinois will discontinue its Blue Island gas generating plant on August 1 and dismantle the structure except storage tanks. About 18 workers will be laid off as the company shifts to Chicago gas entirely, with customers noticing a different odor.
