Thornton Township Sought Split To Form New Uhana Town
A petition in eastern Thornton Township seeks to divide the area into a new town named Uhana. The plan would create 18 sections and 6 fractional sections with the western boundary 8% miles west of the state line, including West Hammond, Burnham, Lansing, and Oakglen. The move asserts lack of community interest with Harvey and would shift about three quarters of current railroad taxes to the new township. The proposed law allows such divisions by county board petition without resident vote, and requires at least two hundred voters in both new and remaining portions.
