Funeral of Herman Werner Ends Long Local Life of Devoted Farmer
Herman Werner aged 63 died after a week of illness from liver and heart trouble. Born in Saxony on September 25 1848 he emigrated to America in 1867 and settled in Riverdale where he ran a grocery and meat market for 36 years. He married Anna Prahlow in 1874 and had eleven children nine surviving with seven grandchildren. Funeral held at St Pauls Lutheran Church with interment at Oakland cemetery.

Engel House Fire in Delton Reaches Total Loss
Sunday afternoon August 6 the Engel residence at 147th Street and Irwin Avenue Delton burned to the ground. Mrs. Engel was on the porch when a passing auto party warned her. neighbors and the auto party saved some furniture and the barn. The Atlas Assurance Company insured the building for 800 and furniture for 600. The adjuster valued and settled the loss on August 9 for 578 since part of the furniture was saved.
