Mortgage Record Breaks Indiana Scale at Crown Point
A $40 million mortgage, the largest ever in Indiana, is recorded at Crown Point by the Indiana Steel Company linked to the Gary Steel Works. The United States Steel Corporation authorized $10 million in forty year bonds, with $15 million sold. The Gary Works bonds secure a first mortgage on the steel plant, guaranteed by the parent company. The Gary Heat Light & Water Company cut gas rates to 60 cents per thousand cubic feet, with water and electric rates also reduced.
