Purchase Site for Two-Story Exchange Slated

Illinois Bell Telephone Co has bought 100 feet of frontage on 137th street adjoining the Calumet hotel for a future two story brick office building. The buyers paid 10 000 for each 50 foot lot from Carl Schaeffer and Mrs Emily Schmidt. The move signals replacement of the old hand signaling system with a modern telephone setup to handle growth in Dalton and Riverdale.

Dalton man John White held in Hartz kidnapping case

John White of Dalton was taken into custody Sunday night at Homewood by county police in the Hartz kidnapping case. He was released on $5,000 bonds after being taken to Blue Island for a hearing. White testified that three Italians abducted Arthur Hartz from the Alfalfa Gardens and that Marie Wallace was not present for the kidnapping.

Mrs John Stanley Dies in Chicago After Illness

Mrs John Stanley mother of W Harold Stanley died at home in Chicago on Saturday April 21 after a long illness.
