Burns Ditch Completion In June
The Burns ditch eastern section is finished and the western arm will be completed in about two months. Col. A. P. Melton expects to junction the two parts in early June. The ditch opens Sept. 1 to drain the Little Calumet river basin, shifting flood flow to Lake Michigan and reducing the Calumet sag canal. Capacity is 68 million gallons per hour, reclaiming land south of Gary after decades of effort.
