District 149 adopts exceptional and gifted program
Waterman in South Holland and Benger in Dalton, both in District 149, will implement a gifted and academically talented program for about 3 percent and the top 15 percent of students. Principal John Hadley of Waterman coordinates the plan to allow advanced progression through all eight grades while retaining age-based grade placement.

Izaak Walton League Sends Four Students To Springfield
Calumet region Izaak Walton League will send four high school freshmen to the State Conservation School in Springfield Illinois. Applications have been sent to members with eligible children and four names will be chosen. The chapter will cover travel expenses and the state will oversee the students in Springfield. Don Hemmerling James Fahey Jr and Dick Cook are slated to attend the National Convention in Philadelphia April 21 25 with Mrs Cook accompanying her husband.

Rev Armin George Wong D D PH D will outline the United For Christ Tomorrow campaign aiming to raise 1500000 dollars for a Carthage College campus at Kenosha Wisconsin develop Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary at Maywood Illinois expand Camp Alpine at Richmond Illinois and extend Lutheran Student Work across Illinois colleges and universities. The two and a half year effort is led by a church committee with Harold Gifford as chair. All church members and friends are invited to attend with reservations through the committee or church office. dinner prepared by church ladies.

Delton Theatre Closes After 50 Years of Film
The Delton Theatre in Dalton closed its doors after screening the last film on March 23. Owner Richard Gilbert announced the building has been sold for other uses. Opened in 1913 by Joseph Hruby and his brother, it evolved from silent reels to sound cinema by 1930 and featured air cooling, a Cinemascope screen, and modern seating before its final closure.

Leprosy Mission Film Slated at Grace Bible Church
The American Leprosy Mission Inc will head the Ladies' Missionary meeting at Grace Bible Church on Thursday April 16 at 8 pm. A sound color film Those Who Wait will be shown.
