Ald. Shel Govier Wins Narrowly in Ninth Ward Contest

Alderman Shel Govier defeated Zephire Pepin and rival Hillstrom in the Ninth Ward three way race. Govier led among men and overall votes with 5 101 total to Hillstrom 4 372 and Pepin 4 437. The piece frames the result as loyal to government amid pro socialist sentiment and political turmoil.

Entertainment by Liberty Workers at Lincoln Avenue School

Red Cross Shop Closure And War Relief Drive

Red Cross notes shop will close next Wednesday April 10 with staff on hand April 17. Over two tons of clothing for refugees sent to Chicago from Dalton Riverdale Thornton and South Holland. Lincoln Avenue School Dalton Junior Red Cross Auxiliary produced 859 quilt blocks 65 shirts and 59 bandages. Exhibition set for Friday April 12 at 3 45 p m at Lincoln Avenue School inviting parents and friends to view the work.

Miss Dora Henken daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Henken Riverdale and Mr Otto Johnson of Matteson Illinois were married Wednesday April 3 at the bride’s home with Rev Bressler officiating. Payment options for Third Liberty Loan installments

The Chicago Liberty Loan Committee lists four payment methods for subscribers to the Third Liberty Loan. Installment plan requires 5 percent on application, then 20 percent on May 28, 1918, 35 percent on July 13, 1918, and 40 percent on August 15, 1918. Other plans cover weekly and semi monthly schedules with specific per week or per semi monthly contributions and a six month completion. Full payment upon application allowed up to a $10,000 limit.

Dolton Village Board Approves Bills and Raises Clerk Pay

Dolton trustees in regular session approve numerous bills from utilities and firms including Chicago & Riverdale Lumber Co and National Meter Co. The board raises the village clerk’s salary to 100 per month and plans drainage and street maintenance with bids deferred for Clean-Up Day.

Township election yields lopsided results in Thornton

In Thornton township the vote showed strong Republican gains and high contesting support for Propper as supervisor with 2964 votes while Wilhelm trailed with 1176. Bielfeldt led for assessor with 2379 while Dillner lagged at 1695. Anker swept female support in South Holland with 417 to Stobbs 17. James B. Ellis remains town clerk favorite with near-unopposed backing.
