Law Ends Misuse of Auto Plates

Secretary of State Paul Powell announced new legislation restricting the use of motor vehicle dealer license plates and raising fees for dealers parts suppliers and wreckers. The bill, approved by Gov. Otto Kerner, targets abuses such as cars touring with Illinois plates in other states and use of plates on personal vehicles. Fees for new and additional dealer plates rise from 5 to 50 dollars and 5 to 25 dollars respectively, with plate set costs up to 25 dollars and extras at 4 dollars.
