Weather Damage Hits Lisbon and Sugar Road Area

Looking Back reports heavy rain last week caused damage on Lookin g Back isbon and Tulip roads with Lisbon washed out at an arroyo near Sugar Road. A motorist was trapped in her vehicle and rescued by fire department volunteers on September 23, 1982.

New Mexico AG finds Rio Rancho council violated Open Meetings Act

After a 10 month review the attorney general ruled the Rio Rancho governing body violated the Open Meetings Act by terminating former City Manager Jim Palenick. Assistant AG Mary Smith orders a properly noticed meeting to cure the violation and a legally noticed closed session to validate prior actions. The investigation found four members formed a rolling quorum to discuss Palenick with meetings involving Mike Williams Kevin Jackson Howard Balmer and Larry Naranjo.

Wounded Iraq veteran honored at new Rio Rancho home

Erik Schei, a 23 year old Iraq war veteran wounded in combat, was honored at his Rio Rancho home where a flagpole was installed by the New Mexico Honor Guard. Family and fellow soldiers attended a ceremony filled with emotion as his sergeant promoted him and soldiers shared stories of bravery.

Open Meetings Act cloud hangs over Rio Rancho council

Four elected Rio Rancho officials risked violating the Open Meetings Act by discussing city business in a hallway before a Sept. 12 public meeting. Councilor Balmer led a private water infrastructure talk with Petrullo Davis and Thomas as they prepared for the council session.
